Overview
La Heroíca is the quintessential Colombian cycling experience. This tour starts in the verdant green Andean mountain range and ends at the crystal blue water of the Caribbean Ocean. Over the course of 14 days we will cover over 1000 kilometres. During this journey you will visit many of the country’s tourism destination highlights and explore areas that are well off the beaten path. We have selected a route that traces quiet country roads so that you can enjoy the riding to the fullest extent.
The biggest challenge of the tour is riding the world’s longest climb, Alto de Letras. The 82km stretch that climbs over 3700 metres will leave you with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when you arrive at the top. Even though climbing Letras is remarkable by its own right, it definitely won’t be the only thing that will leave you breathless. This trip has been carefully crafted so that you can experience something new each day.
The experience is not just limited to cycling. At each pedal along the way you will be supported by our staff to ensure each day is enjoyable. Whatever your needs or wishes, we can accommodate. Come explore Colombia by bike.

THE ROAD TO ADVENTURE
- Day 1: Bogotá
Arrival to Bogotá. We will pick you up from the airport and meet in the evening to go over the trip details with all the guests.- Day 2: Bogotá – Cachipay
Our first day riding is a nice warm up. We start in flat country just outside the city limits and end the day descending into a spectacular valley. We will spend the night in cabins on a quiet bed and breakfast farmhouse. Distance: 100 kilometres Altitude gain: 1200 metres- Day 3: Cachipay – Mariquita
Today’s ride is a stage that will warm up the climbing legs. Two climbs with stunning views of the sweeping valleys below will be completed before we descend to the warm town of Mariquita. Distance: 120 kilometres Altitude gain: 2000 metres- Day 4: Mariquita – Manizales
Are you ready for the climb of your life? Imagine eighty-two kilometres of continuous climbing as you move from a steamy tropical valley through banana farms, coffee fields and pine forest to finally arrive in the unique Altiplano ecosystem at the end of the day. This ride is a test of patience and perseverance. Starting...- Day 5: Manizales – Anserma
This stage will reward you with some of the most incredible landscapes Colombia has to offer. We start the day with a 30 kilometre swift descent to the Cauca River valley. We will then begin a slow climb riding through towns who subside on the coffee production. Our end destination is the quaint town of...- Day 6: Anserma – La Pintada
La Pintada lives up to its name – “The Painting.” For most of this day you will ride the foothills of the central Andean Colombian mountain range which is banked by the second largest river in Colombia – Cauca. This stage is for the most part flat and downward which is a great way to...- Day 7: La Pintada – Medellin
A new day, a new challenge. Alto de Minas is a 40 kilometres climb and it was in these hills that gave rise to the Colombian cyclists who were coined “Los Escarabajos” (beetles) due to their incredible climbing abilities while riding the pro cycling circuit in 1980s. At the crest of this climb, you will...- Day 8: Restday Medellin
Medellin, the city of eternal spring is a great place for a rest day. Kick up your feet and relax at the hotel or go for a walk in this lively city.- Day 9: Medellin – Santa Roda de Osos
The calm beauty of the mountains will lead us out of Medellin. The rolling agrarian landscape will lead us through quiet back roads. Our destination is a village nestled in the middle of the mountains. For many this is the most picturesque section of the tour. Distance: 100 kilometres Altitude gain: 1800 metres.- Day 10: Santa Rosa de Osos – Planeta Rica
Today we go down, down and down! We start in the cool mountain weather and descend into the warmth of the savanna. We will descend The Alto de Ventanas that is famous for the beautiful transition as the Andes Mountains opens to the Caribbean plains below. Distance: 135 kilometres Altitude gain: 600 metres.- Day 11: Planeta Rica – Tolú
Although Sincelejo might not rank high on tourism “must sees”, we love this city. From the food to the way people talk you will notice the Caribbean flare. We will ride to the Montes de Maria which is a small mountain range in the middle of the plains. Rolling pastures and cows will keep us...- Day 12: Tolú – Cartagena
Our last cycling day! We couldn’t have hoped for a better way to end a trip than to end by arriving at a beach. Both our ride and the city of Cartagena have shown great bravery, perseverance and lasting history. It’s fitting that this will be our destination. Enjoy the amazing architecture and incredible sunsets...- Day 13: Discover Cartagena
Cartagena de Indias is considered to be the most beautiful city of whole South-America. Wander through the narrow cobblestone streets, enjoy the colourful cuisine, and relax by the beach.- Day 14: Transfer to airport
We will escort you back to the airport or help you with any local arrangements you may have made.
