Little joys of life
Thinking about the important things in my life, and what makes me happy, riding my bike, is number 1 in my short list, family and friends aside. So having the opportunity to ride every single day should be definitely a key for having a happy life.
This is why Colombia is so much fun: you can actually ride bikes year round, non stop if you want to, as we don’t have any extreme cold that would force you to better stay at home. Of course we have many rain, and then the riding condition might be less than ideal. But we also have a solution for that, and it isn’t layer up, but instead head downhill. The temperature on the mountains rises or decreases according to the height, (and we do have large mountain!) so we might change from some cold 15ªC to some very pleasant 24ª in just a matter of an hour of driving, or better yet, 1 hour and half of riding, which can be some very good 3 hours of climbing back, just enough to warm up again
Having said all that how can this not be the happiest place on earth, or make you, my fellow cyclist, also very happy?
I especially like the early rides, the cold breeze that slowly warms up, the sunrise, and its light changes. By the end of the ride I’m in a completely different mindset.
However we Colombians become spoiled and don’t go out riding unless is kind of sunny, but we have dropped the idea of having to put layer after layer of clothing so we can cope with the weather of ride.
Happiness is elusive but I think that you can find parts of it in the little joys of life. In my case, I’m sure that whenever I go out for a ride, I’m just a little closer to achieve it.
